Open Question: How often do you need to replace cell? Mines broken after 6 months?

I was told they break easily but it’s only been 6 months. I choose the free one with the planed contract but it sure does seem a waste to replace it that often and the cheapest phone to buy is $199 dollars and I don’t see how anyone can buy a $199 dollar phone every 6 months
